After John Jansky delivered his SFG logo painting, I knew that would not be the last.

My next call was to Mike Harper from Art As a Mission. If you don’t know Mike, you for sure have seen his work around town. Mike worked on several of the Walldog murals in town. He has also done a ton of commercial art for several businesses in, and around Danville. See some of his work below.

Mike is a very talented artist and has been drawing since I first met him at Danville Book World in 1983. Mike and I bonded over comic books and a love of heavy metal in our early high school years. So, I have over 40 years of history with this guy. I gave Mike the same charge as I did John; take my logo and give me your interpretation of it.

Here’s what it looks like:

I asked Mike to tell me what it all means, and this is what he told me. First up, the “SFG”. That is a nod to our heavy metal days and is a play off of the “Dio” logo. He replaced my dots with bolts on a background of wood. He said that he wanted to convey the strength of wood and steel and relate that durability to my business of giving my clients “financial stability.”

I think it’s awesome and I love that he was able to take something from our 40 years of friendship and bring it to today. This hangs in our office, right outside our client meeting room. Its a wonderful piece and it means a lot to me.

I’m thinking that I need to commission some other local artists and fill the office with their spin of our logo.
